A Tropical Prelude: Love and Culture in Bloom

The night before Rachel and Yugo’s wedding was held at the beautiful Glass House, where the vivid shades of green from tropical plants and trees shimmered under the bright sunlight. Rachel, who has Indonesian heritage from her mother’s side and Dutch from her father’s, and Yugo, who has both Japanese and British roots, were joined by family and guests traveling from across Asia, the United States, Europe, and beyond — including from Indonesia, Japan, and the U.S., where the couple makes their home. It was an evening to celebrate and express gratitude for the cultures, traditions, and the very existence of their diverse loved ones. Guests, dressed in traditional attire from their respective backgrounds, were welcomed by penjor decorations standing vividly against Bali’s signature blue skies, a coconut and rattan welcome board crafted with island artistry, and a Plumeria Room surrounded by glass, transformed into a lounge filled with the green abundance of a lush meadow where everyone gathered for aperitifs. Dinner was served in the Moonlight Garden in a family-style setting featuring Balinese cuisine. The table decor was inspired by canang, traditional Balinese offerings, adorned with banana leaves, rattan accessories, vibrant orange marigolds, and soft blue hydrangeas — symbols of the island. Spanish moss and fairy lights gently lit the tables, and flowing drapery swayed in the distant sea breeze. It was a romantic night filled with laughter, joyful tears, and heartfelt celebration of the miracle of everyone gathering at that very moment in that very place — a night that was as beautiful as it was deeply cherished.
