Whispers of Vert-de-Gris – Nature Inspired Wedding Palette

“What does that mean?” This was a phrase Yugo often repeated during the planning stage. Guests were welcomed with penjor, symbolic decorations used during Balinese Hindu festivals to express gratitude to the gods and invite their presence. These tall bamboo poles are adorned with palm bark, coconuts, and tropical fruits. The glass chapel was transformed into a “Memory Lane,” lined with photos tracing their journeys—from when their parents met, to their births, to the love-filled years that led them to find each other. When thinking of their beloved Bali, the color that came to mind was vert-de-gris—a blue-tinged green. That hue inspired the banner, and the décor was styled in green shades reflecting the island’s lush nature. During the ceremony on a glass stage that juts out over a clifftop, over a thousand origami cranes swayed overhead—an homage to Yugo’s Japanese roots and a symbol of new beginnings. Each family wore floral pieces of white roses and plum-pink orchids. Rachel and Yugo were adorned with vibrant, marinated bouquets and boutonnieres—on that day when the bond between two families blossomed beautifully. The island map became the seating chart, and each dinner table held handwritten notes from the couple to every guest. Adorned with white and green-toned flowers on chic black slate, the table décor captured the island’s vibe in a minimalist style—creating a reception full of the couple’s personality. Overflowing with laughter and joyful tears, it was a once-in-a-lifetime gathering of their dearest loved ones—from the UK, the Netherlands, Japan, the U.S., and all around the world. Every fleeting moment was cherished and savored with care and emotion. This was, without a doubt, the essence of a destination wedding.
